Can I access my accounts from multiple computers?

Yes. You can access your online accounts from any computer. You may be asked additional information upon logging in. This helps protect you by keeping unauthorized people from accessing your information.

Can I give someone else online access to my account information?

We offer Authorized Access services for our business customers that would allow you to grant others access to your accounts online, without sharing your User Name and Password.

What is encryption?

Encryption is a process whereby data is scrambled while being transmitted. When it is received, it is decrypted (or decoded) so that it can be read. When you are in an encrypted area of a website, you will see a small lock at the bottom of your screen. As soon as you move to a non-secure area of the site, this icon will change to an open lock.

How does Enhanced Online Security work?

When you visit your local banking center office, you know our faces and we know yours. Enhanced Online Security does the same thing over the internet. It is a method to identify us to you and you to us. We check the computer(s) or device(s) that you are using to access the website. Typically you access the website from one or two computer such as your home and work computers. Enhanced Online security remembers your device. No personal or private data is stored.

Is a “firewall” another security measure?

Yes. A firewall is an internet security system made up of hardware and software designed to separate internal computer systems and databases from the rest of the internet. When data comes to us from our customers via the internet, it must pass through a number of security checkpoints that make up our firewall.

Is Online Banking safe?

Online banking is safe when proper safety measures are taken. We encourage you to keep your User Name, Password and challenge questions confidential at all times to prevent unauthorized use of your account. We also encourage strong passwords with a mix of lower case, uppercase, numbers and special characters.

How safe is Mobile Banking to use?

Is Webster Mobile Deposit secure?

Webster Mobile Deposit is protected by several layers of security including SSL encryption technology to protect your financial activities. In order to access Webster Mobile Deposit, you must enter your username and password, and sometimes an additional challenge question.

What is Phishing?

Phishing is when a scammer uses a phony message (traditional mail, email, text, or phone call) to trick you into providing personal information like your password or account information.

What is SSL and why is it important to me?

Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is a system designed to protect data. It provides authentication that you are communicating with our web server and it provides encryption to scramble data transmissions. SSL also provides a system to detect tampering. If tampering is detected in the SSL, the connection is broken. It is important since no one will be able to tamper with your transactions while you are using an SSL connection.
